I thought that it would be a good idea to start a thread with regard to servicing as a lot of people ask for reliable people or tips on how to do it themselves.

Do you service your own car and if so, where do you get the parts?

If you take the car to someone, who and where?
Are they good and would you recommend them?

Seeing as I have started..
I do try and and my basic service myself (oil change, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and plugs should they need them) but anything else then there are at least one place that I can rely upon but one place that I have yet to try.

The first I try is: http://www.basingstoketyreandmotcentre.co.uk/
MOT's are £30 and they are very very fair along with cheap tyres. They also do servicing and repairs with which I have had a couple MOT repairs done and have been charged quite fairly for the jobs done.

The one place I have yet to try is Rapid-fit/Ford dealership but I will be seeing how they perform within the next couple of months when I finally sort out the DPF additive and of course will let you know.

I do basic work myself

I get oil, plugs, wiper blades, filters in fact just about everything {apart from tyres} from car independant car spares shop just around the corner from me.

Tyres I get from
www.etyres.co.uk
These guys are brilliant, you pick the tyre {s} you want, then pay online and they let you know what day & time they will be at your place. They come out,fit them, take old ones away. That`s it.No need to hand any money to fitter at all.

For full servicing & MOT I go to a local garage. In fact even before I got my C-Max,it was serviced by them from 6months old. They have stamped the service book.I guess the original owner lost faith with Ford too !!!

To anyone in the Derby/Nottingham area I would strongly recommend N.P.Byrne in Stapleford ... brilliant service, fair prices & a genuine family business (I have no connections to them, I'm just a satisfied customer of many years standing)

Anyone in the Edinburgh Area I would recommend Craighall Garage, 83 Craighall Road Edinburgh, they used to be a ford dealer two years ago but now service and repair any make, the service is top notch and they use fixed price ford servicing, we used them to get a new headlight bulb which the fitted and bought for free so no cost to us.

I'm planning on using them for my servicing and MOT

I use L M Browns Motors - Newport in Shropshire, 3rd service on my 1.8 diesel was about £50 cheaper than furrows in Telford. They are really friendly. Not a high tech modern showroom, but they really try to help the customer. I would recommend them

I do all my servicing myself, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and brakes, normally buy my parts from ebay, really good deals for ford genuine parts. Snapped up a genuine pollen filter for £7.00 the other day.

On the other hand, if most of us don't trust Ford dealers to do simple jobs, why would you trust them with a more tricky job? Just a thought.

I use a garage called SAS in Portsmouth 02392 653781. Ian is the owner and there is nothing he can't do. Thouroughly recommend him, his prices are reasonable and will always help out wherever he can. Also a font of all knowledge, plus his tool box is something else!!

Just had mine done at TCHarrison Peterborough. Yikes, they're poor! Called Monday to book value service and ac clean up and asked if they could look into lumpy running as part if the £168.98 fee for service plus bundle. Booking person agreed that would be included.

Dropped car off Monday night, confirmed work to be done. Told any diagnostics on rough running would be £92 with no guarantee of finding anything. I requested confirmation against call centre deal.

Called first thing Tuesday to say if they weren't going to do diagnostics, then do nothing and I'd come get it back.

15 mins later, called to say diagnostics are included. So on they went.

They called at about 11am to say
A. The aux drive belt was squealing, £251 to replace! I think not.
B. Brake fluid in poor condition, need replacing £32.99 please. Reminded them they had replaced the fluid 7 months earlier, they went to check, then 'Oh, our mistake, there's nothing wrong with the brake fluid.'

So in all, Peterborough TCHarrison are a combination of unprofessional, and either inept or outwrite con artists!

I'll steer clear in future!Edited by: Andymac
