Hi, I've just joined the forum as I have a couple of questions
C-Max 1.6 TDCi LX 2004 60k
I've recently noticed a whirring from the engine bay, I've read a number of posts about the alternator belt and tensioner, is this the likely culprit?
Can I remove this belt and start the engine safely? It seems to run the alternator and AC pump only, is that right?
Is it a job I could reasonably do or would it require a garage to do?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Andrew

there is no problem removing htis belt and starting the engine. I have done this in the past for diagoning a problem, im not sure where the alternator is on the 1.6, but if you can see it ok, then there is no reason why you couldnt do it your self.lee

Hi Lee, thanks for the quick reply,
The alternator is at the front left as you look from the front, it sits above the AC pump with the tensioner just behind and below it. not sure how easy it is to remove the belt itself though..

there is usually a sprung loaded tensioner that you put a spanner on, pull on it to release the tension then pop the belt offLee
