Right, Possibly a bedtime read only.

Being a Mechanic, some had a little tinkering

1, Mk3 Escort 1.3l, £50, ended up 1.6, cams, carbs, exhaust, Old skool tuning!!

2, Mk2 1100 Fiesta, arival of child at 18 decided sensible low cost motoring

3 Mk2 Orion, Fathers donation, 155k miles, blew gearbox up, replaced gearbox and on way home engine had enough.

4 Mk2 Orion again, bought as a donor for car above, piece of poo!

5 Mk4 Escort, 1.6, Same treatment as first Escort until first fuel strike :(, gave brand new 23k racing Pumas a run for their money ( until a corner ).

6 Mk4 Fiesta, Somehow never blew up. Thrashed daily, some 1400 engine parts, exhaust, big stereo etc...

7 1.8 Civic Vti, Sorely missed mild fettling, still strong engine, shame about it being a Rover 45 under the skin!

8 Mk5 Escort Td, Horrible car, Bought to keep mobile whilst rebuilding Honda`s Gearbox.

9 Mk 2 Mondeo 2.0 Ghia x, reliable, not very exciting, wife detests it with a passion, dragged the shed to Wales 2 months ago, Belgium and back on Saturday 3 days after ordering New Cmax and being destined for scrappage!

10 C max Mk2 2.0 Tdci 6 Speed, yet to take delivery, Mrs wife suggested speccing up with Titanium X Pack rather than just Privacy glass, Any views on this bearing in mind 2 kids and a dog? Leather Vs Fabric??? Decisions decisions but worth £1500?????????

Nice list!

As for option 10, go for the upgrade. The leather will be a god send as I too have two kids and it's so easy to clean afterwards. Yes it's another job to do to keep the car clean but it is so worth it afterwards when using the right leather cleanerand it will help the resale value as well.
Think of it as a new sofa!

Thanx for reply,
Think you`re right, Mondy has leather and I let Dog sit on seat, it does wipe clean very easily, it`ll be a shock for him to be made toreside in the boot of new car, even then he should consider himself lucky to slobber and snot on windows!.
Waiting call from Salesman as he was on Hol yesterday.
As someone at work quite rightly states " You cant take it with you! ", and hes right, life is to short, too many people have lives cut short prematurely. still, £1500 is outrageous, I`ve only ever paid more than that fortwo of my cars prior to the C-max.

and the XR2 once when a bit of grit ended up in the carb. not a bad track record for just over 1/2 a million miles
Sorry Gepard,
This is who I directed the question to ( but without quoting! )
So, You work for Ford, Where abouts? I`m a Dyno operator at Dunton.

Passed test in 1971. Since then have owned:

Morris 1100
Austin Maxi 1500
Nissan Violet
Austin Princess 2200
Austin Allegro - but not for long!
Volvo 244
Volvo 245 Auto
Citroen BX
Citroen ZX x2 (one petrol and one diesel, one after the other)
Skoda Octavia
Skoda Fabia Estate
Focus C-Max 1.8TDI Style

and about to take delivery of Focus C-Max 1.8TDCi Zetec.

Funny how they seem grouped together over the years but when I was keen about a particular manufacturer (except for the Allegro!!) I would stick with it for a couple of models. Wonder what will be in store for Ford in four or five years?

On top of this my wife has had a Citroen AX, a Vauxhall Corsa, a Volvo 440, a Kia Sportage and a Suzuki Vitara, but has been happiest driving the Focus C-Max for the last three and a half years.

I may have missed a couple out - they obviously didn't make much of an impression and my memory is getting worse - it's my age don't you know?

It's somewhat frightening seeing just how much difference there is in the year people passed their test 1978 in my case
No! What you mean is its nice to see this site's age diversity? lol

Working on the assumption you were 17 at least when you passed your test, that puts you somewhere close to the 50 year mark (or 350 dog years)
