I'm new to the club, so be gentle! My 2004 2 litre Ghia diesel 's radio (the Sony 6 disc changer one) has started not displaying the correct time. When you reset it to the right time, , it suddenly reverts to a time of its own choosing, about two hoyrs before. The date display,when accessed, has also reset itself to sometime in 2004. A local Ford trained mechanic said it will have to go to a main dealer for rectification, as the software needs updating, and it will cost me around £60.00 Is this correct? Is there nothing I can do, like a well aimed blow with a hammer ?

there was a software update for such an issue but it was released some while ago so I'd be surprised if it hadm't already been loaded. The delaer may be able to check the ford database to see

Thanks Richard- iIbought the car second hand in 2006, when it had only been serviced once, so it may have escaped. I'll smile sweetly at the dealer.

Clock in Radio resets after engine crank
Should a customer express concern that the displayed time and date in the audio unit or the instrument cluster reverts
back to always the same values after engine start, the probable cause is a voltage drop during the cranking process of
the engine. This could lead to a reset of the instrument cluster.

To rectify this concern a voltage buffer module should be installed to the production wiring harness for the instrument cluster

CLOCK IN RADIO LOOSES TIME
SOME NEW FOCUS AND C-MAX VEHICLES MAY HAVE A RADIO UNIT WITH THE CLOCK DISPLAY RUNNING SLOW, A FEW SECONDS PER DAY COULD BE LOST.
TO RECTIFY THIS UPDATE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WITH REVISED SOFTWARE WHICH IS AVAILABLE WITH WDS CD37 ONWARDS.
ID THE VEHICLE AS NORMAL; CHOOSE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER UNDER "BODY" IN THE GUIDED DIAGNOSTIC TAB MENU;
SELECT CLOCK TIME FROM THE DIAGNOSTIC MENU AND PRESS THE BLUE TICK; FOLLOW THE ON SCREEN COMMANDS UNTIL THE PROCEDURE IS COMPLETE,
THEN EXIT THE GUIDED DIAGNOSTIC.

fascinating stuff Richard - one of the tips in the link you provided says that disconnecting the battery for 5 seconds to reset the cluster will sort out the problem .... I wonder what else it might rest ?
