Squeaky clutch pedal

I have a 06 reg 1.6 tdci with a hugely irritating creakfrom releasingthe clutch pedal that no amount of squirting (with WD40) the pedal pivot points from within the footwell will cure. Took to my garage, he squirted some stuff at the same areas (he said the stuff was better than WD40 (he said that can swell rubber). I thought that had curedit cos it immediately went quiet but within another's hour driving it had started to come back. Aaaaaaargh!!!!! Anyone had same experiences/found a solution?
