Hi,  Can anyone advise which cycle carrier fits the rear tailgate of the Cmax please?  Dont want a tow bar fitting rack even though we willat a later stage, if we keep the car, be fitting a tow bar.

We would like a high mounted carrier for three bikes as we don't wanr to use a lighting board.  Been to Halfords but their racks have a problem because of the rear spoiler.

Any hints, tips,  suggestions , pics welcome.

Thanks again

Hi, just joined.
I have an 04 2.0L ghia, and have used a halfords three cycle rack up until last year, whereI changed to a towbar mounted unit. Thiswasdue to the adjustibilty of the towbar unit, givingaccess to the boot evenwhen the cycles are attached.

Unfortunately I no longer have the high mounted carrier otherwise Iwould send afitted pic.My main bit of advice would be this. The two straps that run from inside the boot across the spoiler need to be as parallel to the spoiler as possible i.e. adjust carrier height appropriately.

I hope this helps.

Hi RR, Thanks for advice.  We have been all over local shops and internet and it seems no-one can recommend a rear mount carrier.  We have a Halfords Advanced high mount rack and can't make it fit. Can you advise which model you had please?  The one we've got doesn't have straps, just two clips on the bottom og the tailgate and two adjustable metal bars on the top.

Thanks

After seeing the trouble you are having finding a cycle carrier, and my own experience of having bought a unit from Halfords.I thought, maybe this unit was no longer available, as it was a few years ago when I purchased it. However, nipped into my local Halford today and there it was. It'scalled a rear high mount 3 cycle carrier with straps, price £54.99.
Best Regards

Thanks for quick response.  Will check Halfords again but they assured me in all local outlets that they do not have a cycle carrier that will fit my Cmax.  On your advice I will get them to try to fit the one you recommend.  If it is the one I think you're referring to,I would be worried about long term damage to the rear spoiler but will definately try.
Thanks

As the staff at Halford can be quite inept and unhelpfull at times, they may be unwilling to try it, without further info i.e photo's.After a few enquires, I should be able to get photo's of the carrier set-up on a cmax.If this works will forward the photo's.

This is turning into a right saga
. Have been to Halfords again today and the guy there was very helpful.  He pointed out that if I fitted a high mount cycle cairrer I would be hiding the lights and possibly the no. plate and a lower mounted carrier would definately hide the no. plate.  Either way I need a lighting board.  So I have decided to wait and fit a towbar.  However if you can post pics it would be helpful to me and anyone else having same problem.

Hi, last timeI spoke I mentioned the possibility of photo's of the cycle rack. Well I've managed to borrow the unit I used to ownand will post them tommorrow. You can then make your mind up about what theguy at Halfords was saying????
