Can anybody throw any light on the promblem,on both occassions the garage have replaced the pump?

Losing confidence in this Ford model.

I had a one-off steering assist failure once. Happened when I was parked up, and had to move off quickly due to a bus needing to get past. I turned on the car engine without letting all the diagnostic lights turn off first, and the power steering failed. Worked fine after a 'reboot' though.

Thanks Ravenger,

My problems have been when i started the engine there is a humming noise when you drive off,on both occassions when i stopped which was at the bottom of my drive the steering assist failure warning comes up on the dash display.

Then you have no power steering and of course it very-very hard to steer,i have been told that the power steering on the Cmax is different from previous Ford models it is electronic what this means i don,t know.

My issue is it has failed twice in two months replacement pumps on both occassions under warranty,if not under warranty approx cost £500.
Also my fear if it goes on the motorway.

The power steering on thre C-Max is electro-hydraulic, a completely different system to that on other Ford cars.

If it's failed twice and new pumps have been fitted both times, I'd suggest the dealer hasn't fixed the underlying problem. Unfortunately modern cars are so complex that many dealers haven't a clue about fixing any problem that can't be instantly diagnosed by fault code.
