Hi, I have a 2008 cmax zetec 1.8cdti with 2000 miles on the clock .I am the second owner as the poor chap that owned it fell ill , anyway the problem is I was washing it one day and I spotted like a paintwork pitting at the back door sill on one side . I then went around the other side and it has the same marks as well. Can I see if ford will stand over it paintwork wise? ( it doesn't look like stone chips as the rest of tje car is mint!)

i have exactly the same problem on my 2.0tdci on an 06 plate. I notice it for the first time yesterday when i was cleaning it so I arranged for a warrantee inspection which I have just returned from. The guy at the body shop said he has seen lots of cars like this and ford call it stone thrush, ford have told him it is caused by an aerodynamic design fault which fords have recognized and they are now fitting a plastic protector to new galaxies and s max. but there is nothing they will do for me. When I challenged him and pointed out that the paint is bubbling up from underneath and is some places is not yet broken he said "I totally agree with you but if I put it in for a warrantee repair I will get reprimanded. When I further pointed out that the rest of the car is mint and that the stones would have had to come from the front wheels and past along the side of the car missing the rear doors edges which are 2mm away and only hit the front of the rear arch he said "I know but fords warrantee will only sort it out for you if the rust has come from underneath and the panel is rotten right through so the you can push your finger the entire panel, mind you when it gets to that stage they will say it started from the outside and you wont be able to prove different." He was very appologetic but said that deals had been told not to accept this as a warrantee matter. I intend doing some more home work and see how far I get but I'm not that hopeful

We recently made the mistake of washing our two and a half year old C Max ( colorado red) and discovered the laquer was peeling of the front and back bumpers and the paint had come off the bottom of the wheel arch on the bottom corner of the back doors. After initially giving the impression the latter was a warranty fault at a bodywork inspection, Ford now say they are not interested in covering it. We certainly got the impression that it was a fault as sill protectors are available -- why if not a fault? Has anyone else got a similar experience? They kindly quoted £300 to repair the laquer and sill paintwork.

I haven't noticed that on mine so I'm gonna have to have a look now...

I would write a nice letter to Mr Ford and detail what you've said about them "knowing its a fault", but as they are not willing to fix it under warranty. Ask them what they suggest you do about it, because it is not acceptable.

Make sure you tell them that you will be seeking advice on where you legally stand. (Citizens Advice is always a good place to start).
