Hi!

I was wondering if someone knowledgable will be able to help.

I have recently ordered a new shape C-Max. I have also bought a usedWitter towbar from the old shape C-Max. Witter have got a new towbar out for the new shape focus, but apart from the tow hitch itself the diagrams show them to be identical & most ford dealers I have spoken to have said thatit should still fit as the underside is the same. However, I think more/less of the bumpermight need to be cut away. Does anyone know if the rear bumper was restyled?

However, my main question is about the electrics. One ford dealer said that the electrics on the new C-Max have been upgraded, and installing athe electrics of a towbarby splicing into the existing electrics mayput a spike the in ECU and cost loads/invalidate the warrenty! However, other ford dealers havent mentioned this when asked. Can anyone with experience on installing a towbar on the new shape c-mac confirm/deny this problem?

Thanks,
Oly

Hi Oly, I get my new CMax on Friday and will be getting a bar fitted shortly after. I understand that some aftermarket bars are different between new and old as the new back bumper is deeper.. I will ask the fitter and post his comments. Are you doing single 7-pin, twin or 13-pin?

The Witter and Towsure bars for the Focus C-Max and C-Max are different. As there are EU standards involved I really don't think you can fit it to your new car.Sorry and all that, also you would probably have to chop lumps out of the back bumper.

On Friday at work I was lucky enough to park next to a Focus C-Max. The rear bumper is deeper. The towbar fitter used a bypass relay setup to provide the power for the trailer and caravan wiring so no extra load is drawn through the normal circuits when towing. I think the supply for the 12v 10A socket in the boot was used. Mobile fitter charged £246 to fit fixed witter bracket with twin electrics and extended-neck Al-Ko flange plate ball.

Hi, Ive just taken delivery of a new c max and was also wondering about the tow bar wiring. It all seems to be already fitted as a plug with the 7 required wires are located under the o/s/r bumper. Ive had a look behind the boot trim and the plugs and sockets are waiting for a relay to be plugged in, presumeably it will then supply the relevant feeds down to the socket. All that is then needed is the normal length of 7 core cable and 7 pin socket. Only one problem. where the heck do I buy the relay from? My local ford dealer doesnt seem to know what Im after, does anyone out know anything.
regards
