Hi, I'm really pleased with my 1.6 tdci C max Ghia, 40k 54 plate mine for 3 weeks in all areas except I have noticed that it is producing a lot of black smoke. It seems to happen at 2k revs and above.
the smoke is normally only visible in the headlights of following cars. However yesterday when I changed down on a hill, there was a large cloud in broad daylight.

What emmision readings did you guys get on your last MOT? the limit is 3 and mine got 2.4, please post yours so that I can see if mine are high.

Guess I am going to have to go back to the garage and try to get them to do something about it. (some chance!)

Anyone any idess?

Hi

If your car has had a stedy life before you had it it may be possible that there is a lot of exhaust residue in the exhaust system which will stay there until a spitrited drive blows the residue clear. After driving it at high revs in a low gear for a couple of miles the problem may well disappear. If not you have a different problem.

When a diesel car goes for MoT the mechanic will normally give the car a few blips of the accelerator upto max rev to see what is coming out of the pipe before they test it. If clouds of smoke appear they often tell the owner to go a drive down the road in a low gear and at high engine revs to purge the system.

Cheers

Geoff
