ISOFIX - Urgent!! Thanks :)

You may have seen my post in the newbies section about picking up my C-Max on Tuesday. Well we now have the car and so far i'm really pleased.

One of the things i asked the dealer to do was to fit ISOFIX attachments to the rear seats, they ordered the parts but they didn't arrive in time for them to be done before i collected the car.

They have called today and said that the seats themselves will need to bit cut to insert the attachments to the bars inside the seats
Has anyone had this done or done it themselves?

I'm a bit nervous as the car has nice black leather that they will be cutting!

not sure about cmax but had focus st with and the fittings went in on carpet just under seats. remember look at it well before driving off ,if your not happy dont drive away(bit of a pain i know). but its their error and you have every right to refuse it . it maybe right up underneath so have a good look. as these seats are removable that may be why the have to modify a bit. on focus only the backs fold down so no way of getting underneath.I know this is not the answer you wanted but hope it helps.
They've just had to do this on the c-max i've bought as well. Haven't seen it yet. A related question - does this bracket they fit act as an anchor for the isofix "Top Tether"? We need one apparently.

Cheers

Chris
The one i had on a focus all came with a britax car seat . ford sell these seats and should also sell the fittings
The Focus and the C-Max are obviously totally different. The seat 'has' to be cut in order to fit the ISOFIX adapters on the C-Max. I was hoping to find an owner that has had it done so i can be reassured!

I might ask to dealer if they have one with them already fitted so that i can take a look.
HI Mak1

did you get the isofix fitted? how did they do it? anyone else reading this had it done? Dealer has told me it cannot be done but these posts are getting my hopes up! Someone please tell me it can be done by dealer!!!

Thanks so much For your quick response! I have emailed your pic to the manager atmy dealership along with a quote from another person who had the same issue! I cannot believe they told me it was not possible to add it post manfacture!!!! we returned the car seat to the shop and everything!!!! Hoping they still have one in stock cos it is getting pretty close to the time we are gonna need it!!

Thanks again for your help - my dealer is normally fab - know them verywell but on this issue they seem foxed!

Thank goodness for forums!!!!

No problems Sarah, glad to help!

Our friends who also have the C-Max were told by Mothercare that they could not have the Maxi-Cosi Easy BAse in their C-Max because it has the false floor over their storage area and the stabilising pole would not reach the main floor if the false one was taken out. They refused to sell them one. Well it's the same as what we have fitted to the C-Max and the pole reaches the floor perfectly well!!

Sometimes these 'experts' make mistakes.

In case the dealer cannot find the Info from Fordmine was fitted by John Grose in Ipswich if they want to call them instead!!

Good luck with the Baby - My little girl is 12 weeks now and was the reason we brought the C-Max, we are very happy with it

Yeah after being told that isofix could not be added now we switched to the maxi cosi with easy base only to be told by the shop it is not compatible because of teh leg issue as your friend was advised! A britax trainedfitter (who is now a Health Visitor) told me yesterday thatcmax is notoriously difficult with car seats!

I have just phoned my contact at the dealer and the manager is off so noone had picked up my emails this morning. Have now forwarded to a new address and told them the name of your dealer - mine are now concerned that there might be some legal disclaimer or something to be signed before they can fit it!!! I have suggested they phone JOhn Grose as they have already fitted at least one isofix in cmax!

Congratulations on your daughter - cannot wait to meet mine now (tho if it can hang on till we have isofix points in the car I will be happier!!!! Will let you know if it ever gets sorted!

Cheers

Hey Sarah
Just to let you know, we have the maxi cosi car seat with isofix easy base and it fits perfect.
Got the shop to check it fit - they removed the lid of the false floor and the leg extended to the floor. Main reason for getting the isofix was that the seat belt wouldn't fit around the car seat fully (shop assistant tried to fit a standard car seat)- would have had to slide the rear seat fully back for it to fit.
Will now be upgrading soon for the forward facing seat (she's almost 8 months) and again with isofix easy base.
Hope this helps

Ben
HI again Mike

This still has not been sorted withmy dealer - starting to get a little cheesed off with them to tell you the truth. At 39 weeks pregnant this a hassle I don't need and they don't see to grasp the urgency of the issue!

anyway, after they called yesterday and said the manager would call me back later in the day and he was dealing with it, guess what? no call! tried today and i know my contact is off on a tuesday but so is the manager-agghh!! I spoke to the service manager cos his name has been banded about in conversations but he knows nothing about it but is trying to find out something for me and trying to sort it.

In the meantime, i am not holding out hope now for them so wondered if you could help again. I know your dealer is JOhn Grose in Ipswich - could you give me a contact name of someone there whol will know about this issue as I am thinking of going to a different garage and telling them to phone your contact in Ipswich and trying to get it sorted that way as at least there is someone at your garage knows about this!

ANy help/info/advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated! SOrry for long message!

While this is going on, have you looked at other car seats that need only a seat belt?
I have two boys (5 & 1) and the seats that I got only needed the seat belt to hold the seat in place.
Both were excellent and the one my youngest boy has, well I just wish I could sit in it! Pull it forward and becomes a bed :)
HI thanks for your message.
YEah we haev looked at seatbelt secured options but are not hapy when the isofix is the much safer option and we bought the car based on it being a safe family car assuming isofix was standard not an optional extra!

Also, even seatbelt infant carriers pose problems as ford seatbelts are notoriously short (apprently) and in teh cmax the centre has to be folded down adn the 2 outside seats pushed as far back poss (like for tall passenger) to achieve satisfactory length of setbelt! We are looking at borrowing a seat for now and either doing this or getting a lift home from the hospital in a relative's car that definitely fits infant car seats.

Hi Sarah,

The only contact name i have is the salesman who sold us the car, however it was him that got this sorted out for us so i'm sure he can advise. His name is Vic Macguire. The John Grose phone number is 0844 8560018.

If you don't get any joy post back and i will ring John grose myself to find out part numbers or something!

Hope you get sorted soon - but if not don't panic too much. The Mothercare ISOFIX Easybase will also work with a seatbelt so you won't be totally stuck if you don't get it sorted before the big day. We had to run like this for two weeks before ours were fitted....

Again if you want pictures of the isofix or the base fiited with a seatbelt to put your mind at rest just let me know!

Sarah - something else that might help you below is from a ford Dealers website in Norwich. These guys seem to know their stuff as i have brought a AUX lead for our C-Max off them on ebay recently (so we can plug in our IPOD). John Grose didn't think this was available but they sure are!!

If you look in the description it says an optional kit may be needed at £15 - i'm sure if you give them a ring they can give you a part number very quickly!

Hi Mike

After the wees of problems with the isofix for the group 0 car seat a few months ago, I am now looking ahead to group 1 in a few months! Have you had any joy with group 1 isofix fits yet? Would love to know which models fit! Thanks!!

Sarah
Hi again Ben!

I just wondered if you have moved up to group 1 seats yet? Wondering if there is an isofix compatible option for our wonderful cmaxthat you had tried and tested??!!!

Hi Sarah, my word you never stop do you!!

Did you have a little Boy or Girl in the end?

Regarding the group 1 seats we haven't even looked yet and our little girl is now 7 months and growing well. We've been advised to keep her rear facing for as long as possible as long as the seat we have still fits fine (and it does) so you've got plenty of time yet
.

I think the whole idea of isofix is that everything will fit, i guess some better than others in certain cars but they all should work fine.

I guess we ought to start thinking about it soon, once we've had a look i'll post my thoughts....

HI Mike!

I know I am a bit previous in looking at groups 1 seats already and have heard that rear facing as long as possible is the safest option but I don't want to end up on the last minute.

I eventually had a little girl on 16 June. SHe is doing really well and is now 4 months old. If she keeps growing at her current rate she may well have her head above the seat by 9 months so will then need a new one - I now it is still a while off but I would like to know what is out there and what is possible!
As and when you do look at getting a new seat I would love to know how you get on if you donlt mind emailing/posting on here.

Cheers
SArah
