Hi,

Recently picked up my 57 plate panther black 1.8 petrol ZetecC-Max after trading in my 07 plate 3 doorFocus ST2...
Only had that car since October too but circumstances (namely a 3month old baby!)meant I neededto get something cheaper to run and a little more practical.

Must admit I love the C-Max though I miss the ST's engine when it comes to overtaking! I do however have a couple of questions.

1) The drivers seat - am experiencing creaking, squeeking and a little movement. Had the same thing in the ST which led to a new seat base being fitted just before deciding to trade the car in. Have had the dealer look at the seat and amhaving a hard timeconvincing them there is a problem. Anyone else experienced seat problems?

2) The temperature gauge seems to reach operating temperature rather too quickly. The needle indicates that operating temperature has been reached within half a mile of setting off -even when the car has been stood overnight. It also seems to get to this point quite jerkily ie the needle goes to the 1/4 mark, pauses briefly then goes staight to the half way point on the dial. Hope this makes sense! Is this normal? No car I have ever driven has reached operating temperature so quickly.

Hi & welcome,I had a slight squeak under the drivers seat, cured it with a quick spray of wd40.As regards temp gauge, something not right, probably thermostat.Let us know how you get on.
When the temp gauge reads normal temperature does the heater give out "hot air" and does the radiator feel hot

Also have you ever managed to get the temperature gauge to go high enough for the cooling fan to cut in

The temperature gauge being slow to show warm is a problem with a thermostat sticking partly open but the other way round is something I don't recall

I don't know where the water temp sensor is on this model but they used to be a brass unit that screwed into the block and which reduced its resistance as it got warmer

If you can find the sensor and have the equipment to measure resistance we can probably find you an expected figure at 88deg C when the thermostat opens and everything else gets warm
i have a month old 1600 c max and its true the temp needle does move very quickly to just under half way. Car seems fine though, in fact its a cracka

Will try and remember to check for hot air! Will prob have to wait for the weekend to check if the radiator itself gets hot as I don't have time to pull over and check when on my way to work!

Not noticed the cooling fan cut in yet but then the temp gauge needle has never moved higher than just under half way in the week and a half that I've had the car. In fact once the needle has reached operating temperature I've not noticed it fluctuate even slightly.
it ll be fine Raif, mine never moves from just under half way, like a say it does move quickly to that position, but appears to be perfectly ok mate.

Maybe it's just normal then! I asked the garage to check the other day. They did the usual diagnostic nonsense and said all was well. Will have to see what it looks like when the cold mornings start.

What made me notice the fact that the gauge is showing operating temprather quickly is the fact that I always kept an eye on the temperature in my previous two cars (Focus ST and before that a Puma) when rushing to work in the morning (time keeping is not my forte!) so as to avoid pushing the cars too much before they were properly warmed up. Doing this gave me a good idea of how far from home I would be by the time the car was warmed up and half a mile for the C-Max seems a bit quick.
i had a creaking noise from my seatand could not find the problem till one day i lowerd my seat(had it quiet high) to try a diff height and the noise whent

Need help with what baby (combination) Carseat fits the cmax

Hi all. I recently purchased a c-max 2006 Ghia which I love but now I've started looking for baby car seats to fit it and am finding this very differcult. I still have a few months to go but so glad ive started looking now. Been told by maxi-cosi and britax that they have not tested their car seats in a cmax. Mothercare say they can not help and are reluctant to fit in my car as they have not been tested.
Does anyone know what car seats fit. We was looking at a combination car seat suitable for newborn to 3+ years to save on having to buy again once it's grown out of a newborn seat.
PLEASE HELP
I have 2 child seats. A Britax and standard booster seat for the older lad. The Britax fits fine on the cream leather , but no marks are been left so all is good. Had the Britax in the front and back. Didn't have it in the drivers seat as the young one is only 4 :D
Oh and welcome to the mad house.

I'm using one of the Mothercare "Xtreme" travel system sets. Fits perfectly, but I'm using a seatbelt, not an ISOFIX. I'm buying a full seat when she's older, but I figured the £200 deal for the full travel system was a decent buy. Fitted horribly in my old Vectra, but slides in and turns to fit just right in the back of the C-Max.
