Have got a 1.6 TDCI which is less than 12 mnths old,and I cant get more than 42 mpg.
Is this Normal ?

Pretty much the same as I get out of my 1.8 tdci.
Not exactly impressive!

Our 54 plate 1.6TDCI (withoiut the DPF) gives at least 45 and normally nearer 50

I`m getting around 44 out of my 2.0 TDCI & 50+ on a run easily.

Had 1.8 tdci for over two years now, had at best approx 72.5 mpg on a good long run, 60 mpg on local a roads and 52-54 driving around town. basically its the normal advice, drive steady, dont accelerate and brake sharply, anticipate traffic flow. i personnally inflate my tyres 1 psi above the manual to 35 psi, only use quality shell or bp diesel and change my air filter every 12 months, not 36 months on servicing.

i used to use asda diesel

but economy increased, for town driving, from 43 to about 52.

it also helps if you are married to a Advanced driving instructor, sitting in the passenger seat.

MY 1.6 PETROL SEEMS TO BE GETTING BETTER MPG JUST DONE A ROUND TRIP OF 300 MILES AND THE AVARAGE WAS 46 , ITS NOW GOT 9000 MILES UNDER ITS BONNET

46 is good for petrol. The best I've had from my 1.8 flexi-fuel engine is 43 (280 mile journey) and 34 when using bio-fuel, E85. Only done about 3800 miles though so should improve over time.

computer on our 2.0 tdci said 58 mpg on a short trip off about 15 miles but i had to drive very slow well for me any way. about 3 miles where on a duel carrageway at 69 on cruise.but the rest was on normal a roads with light traffic and only a couple of juntions. wife said i should drive like that all the time she wish's.

I got it because I travel less than 8000 miles a year and it cost the same as the standard petrol engine. Road tax is cheaper at £150 rather than £170 and there could be future tax benefits too. Problem is it's hard to get hold of with only a handful of Morrison's selling it but this may change and it delivers fewer miles to the gallon due to it's higher octane rating.

WELL MY 3 MONTH OLD 1600 MANAGES @ BEST 34 - 35 TO GALLON , AND THATS DRIVING LIKE MISS MARPLE ! Horrendous, then again a did have an 07 1400 tdci fiesta before , @hem . oh cars on 4000 miles now

45+ mpg solo, up to 54mpg on a long run driving like a vicar.. 30- 33 with 1250kg on caravan on the back. The 1.6TDCi should better that- the combinedfigure for the 1.6TDCi is about 5mpg better than the 1.8TDCi..

By the way mine is a 1.8TDCi Zetec with 7000 miles on it so far.
