I have a 2003 1.6 C Max Zetec (30,000 mls) and have recently had a power steering pump failure (ridiculous at such a low mileage) . I go to an independent mechanic to fix my car and he started to fix the problem (with great difficulty without a manual as Ford would not sell him one) . After many hours and having replaced the pump, a set of new hoses and the drive belts which had been covered in the leaking steering fluid he finally thought he had cracked it...until he turned the engine on!!

Now I have a car that goes again but the speedo doesnt work and the brake & APS lightis permanently on!! He has done a diagnostic check which gives no clues to the instument failure.. Any ideas??

Hi, you seem to be having a real problem.
If I get chance, I will have a look at the TIS DVD to see what might be affected but this DVD can be found on ebay or sometimes available on torrent.
The TIS DVD is what Ford used to use for technical information before switching to another system. For those who have older C Max's then we are ok and can use it.

If I remember correctly the speedo is fed from the ABS system input at one or all of the wheel sensors.

Given the other similar related faults try checking the connections at the wheels first

Thanksfor the suggestions as to what has gone wrong ..i have told the guy working on the car..he thinks that because the car was jacked up with the engine running for quite some time that it has suffered a memory loss!

So he hopes that by hooking it up to his computer it might reset itself. Heres hoping.

I think it highly unlikely that the angle achievable whilst jacked is any much more than on a steep hill and if there were anything like this happening Ford would soon have had a major cry for their heads from disgrunteled buyers

Are any of the othe functions in the instrument cluster not working?
