ESP Light

Hi all, i own an 05 plate cmax zetec 1.8 ,when i switch on the ignition, the ESP light does not always illuminate,I don't know if the car has ESP because it does not have an on/off switch. any advice would be much appreciated. this is my first c.max and I love it.many thanks
