Hi All.
Newbie here. I wonder if someone could give me some advise.Iv,e got a 04, 2.0 TDCI Ghia .Iv'e had the car about two years it's done about 45000 miles, two weeks ago I had a new EGR valve fitted by my local mechanic,he fitted the valve no problems. But since it's been fitted when I start the car in the morning the revs fluctuate slightly and it seems like the engine is hunting. After a couple of minutes it settles down and drives no problems.
When I went back to the mechanic he did point out to me that there was a label on the new valve that said some valves need to be reprogrammed, but he can't do that he doesn't have the software only Fords.I then went to Fords were I bought the car from and the mechanic said it didn't think that was the case,he seems to think it could be the Glow Plugs need replacing.I may do these myself anyway.Could someone tell me if I put new Glow plugs in do these need reprogramming aswell,is it a case with out with the old in with the new job done.
Sorry for the long letter,I hope I have explained myself.
Thanks in advance.

By the time the engine has started the glow plugs should have finished doing their job which is to heat the air in the cylinder enough for the first injection of diesel into the compressed air in the cylinder to ignite and cause the engine to run.

Due to just slightly flow characteristics for each individual injector they may need calibrating to the engine if they are changed which is a Ford (or Bosch) specialist job

If the EGR has become "sooted up" then there may be a period whilst the engine burns off the accumulated carbon. I don't know of there being any need to check the pressure drop accros the valve which is how I believe it senses how much to open
