Is this an automatic with the "Powershift" gearbox option?
If so then the different settings are probably concerned withat what engine speedthe gearbox chenges up a gear.

The "sport" mode is likely to hold delay changing up a gear to a higher engine speed to get faster acceleration

The "comfort" mode will probably do the exact opposite in that it will probably go up the gearbox at the earliest opportunity

"normal" is probably somewhere inbetween to cope with both need for speed and need for economy

If I remeber correctly i suspect you are unlikely to want to accelerate like a sports car so probably won't need to use that mode. Of the other two you might have to try each to see just what the difference is

Thanks richard but the car is not an automatic its a manual 1.8 and a 2007 zetec c max. What you say though does make some sense but can anyone out there be more specific ,who actually uses our model car.

it is to do with the weight of the steering , very little in them ,worth trying a different one each time and see what you prefer.had this setting on focus st and sport does wear tyres quicker but was perfect for me as im heavy handed anyway.lol. but i know some women prefer comfort (not being sexist but its a touch lighter).
