I have a 05 1600 ZETEC and it has recently developed a reluctance to start up first time. It has 18k on the clock and i have owned it since June. Fuel economy also seems to be quite poor considering its a relatively newish car.

Any pointers would be most welcome as i am not sure where to begin.

Thanks

I have had a problem with my car starting first time. I changed the spark plugs and it did not help , so I then changed the ignition coils and it is alot better now. I also have heard the fuel filter can cause this problem as well and that changing that may help.

My TDCI doesn't start first time either, it doesn't always happen but i'm still in the early stages of ownership and i'm thinking thats justthe way it is.

I've just worked out my fuel economy and i reckon it has done 46mpg but i put that down to it being as aerodynamic as a brick. My mondeo TDCI easily achives 55mpg

Both are 2ltrs

I must admit that Yes I have had a few issues with my car.
I must admit it still wont always start first time but it is not as regular as it was before I changed the above. I am going to get the fuel filter changed or if it is not a hard jod I may do it myself as I am becoming a bit of a c max mechanic hey mickey

I would say that by performing a service yourself, you may overcome the starting issue and least know the car has been done right!
Change the sparks first and see. If not then change the fuel filter and so on.

There is a family by us who have been here about 1 year. They have a picaso & have had the AA out on average every 6 weeks ,I heard he had a flat battery one time so I asked him if he wanted me to help him start it with some jump leads. All he did was tell me to ^&%$ off & mind my own business
.Now I just walk past & laugh at him.
