Cannot connect Android Auto

I cannot get Android Auto on my Cmax hybrid. When they connect my phone to USB port in between two front seats I get message USB insertion error on my car screen. I tried Galaxy 3 a and Galaxy 4. Used factory USB cords. Any suggestions? I am not sure if this is related, but I cannot listen to to my music apps on the phone via USB either.

What year is your C-max? You may need to upgrade to a newer version of Sync for Android Auto to work. I updated my '13 Ford mytouch to a Sync 3.4 and then bought a Motorola wireless adapter. Works great.
