evrything that i have read (Official) about the cmax says that it should be around the 40-44 BUT and it is a big BUT everyone on here seems to be getting between 30-35. I have had mine for a week now and am getting 34. Love the car to bits - traded in a top of the range Picasso 2.0 HDI and was getting 49 normal use and between 49-60 on a run. Ready to cry now.............

Looked at the Picasso when I bought my C-Max a couple of years ago, but could not get my head around the central binnacle for the instruments during the test drive. I seemed to have my eyes off the road way too much. I am much happier with the layout in the C-Max, but like (it appears) most other people rather racked off by the actual, as opposed to the quoted, MPG.

Just found that some of the front passenger side footwell cover is missing. Got to take it back to the garage (a ford dealer) where we bought it to get him to have a look as I think it is dangerous. Trouble is the garage is 67 miles away - my fault for living on the East coast of Kent...... there goes another half tank of petrol.........lol.........

I got a 2.0tdci on a 53 last August ,I added a Tunit kit in September and it transformed the car. There was plenty of go before but now it is so easy to drive, much smoother and better mpg.I get 38 round town,it hardly has a chance to warm up as it only does short local runs, however I have done a few long runs and am getting 50! Last weekend I added a K & N air filter to help it `breath` a little better and again it`s better for the addition however it is a pig to install!
Overall I am well pleased with the car and will definately get another.

Hello all,
My 1.8 TDCi is currently averaging 44mpg, most of it's life it does a 10 mile run each way to work plus a one mile through-town run at lunchtimewhen my colleague pops home for lunch. It's this bit that really knocks the mpg down. On a run up to the NEC from Oxon I got 53.1 which is over the official figure..coming up to 3000 on the clock now and loosening up and improving on mpg all the time. My otherC-Max 1.8 TDCiwas a shade better.

thanx for your replies but it seems to be the computer thats wrong coz l ran the diesel down til the 50 light came on then put a measured gallon in and clocked the miles til it came back on. 46 sounds better. think il just put black tape over the display .

50,is that round town or on a run,as I said I get 50+ on a run.Since fitting K&N air filter, round town average has gone up to 41.The Tunit kit really does work and for town work I keep it set at 2,then for a run turn it up to 6.Never had nerve to turn it to 9!!! I think I might take off.

My 1.8TDCi's MPG is very variable.

Around town on short trips it's around 30mpg, but can be lower if it's only taken for very short trips and doesn't get time to warm up. I live in a very hilly area, so that adversely affects the economy too.

On a motorway run I get around 50mpg at 70mpg. I can get it as high as 65mpg, but I have to keep it below 60mph and drive like a granny to get it.

hi metalmicky can you please tell me where you got your tunit kit from and how hard was it to fit price as well would be nice. as before we got the 2.0 tdci 54 we had a 2.2 hdi citroen c5 and i put a chip on that but it took 2hours to fit as it went straight on to the common rail which was right up againest the engine. lots of swearing and tools flying around the garage as ihave bigger hands than the person who said it will take 15 mins.

Hi there - recently got a 04 1.6TDCi and so far so good. Havent had less than 52 MPG. However I would say forget the computer display and measure by filling up till it clicks, drive a couple of hundred miles before refilling (preferrably same garage same pump). Then divide number of litres by 4.55 to get gallons, then divide mileage by number of gallons used. That is the only truly accurate way. There are too many variables any other way and its just guesswork. My last tank worked out at 52MPG but the computer had displayed anything up to 99.9 and as low as 20? whats that all about?

I am very interested to learn from you guys about tips to improve economy. I have a K&N induction kit which I had on my previous car (a 300TDi Discovery) which I am thinking about trying to fit. I know that Discovery owners all swear by blanking off the EGR valve. Is this a good idea with the C max?

Hi Guys,

I have a 2.0 TDCi Ghia which l have had for 10 months now. Had vectras for years but fanced a change .Love it to bits and get an average 40mpg.
Around 38 around town and 42ish on the motorway in 6th gear.
Not the cheapest diesel for mpg but the torque of the engine makes for very little gear changing which makes it a pleasure to drive.
