Hi peeps,Imentioned about our new c-max going back to ford dealer after only 600 miles on clock, they said my hubby had burned the clutch out! Whatever Ford !! Good news today 15th august got the car back.Ford have replaced the whole clutch machanism and motability have paid for the repair. The guy at fords said "we have a lot of people ring us about the clutch smelling on all new cars, theyre just so sensitive, try using your handbrake more, rather than clutch control" Funny that isnt it ,he was taught to drive how to use clutch control. When my hubby challenged the ford guy he also told him not to use the clutch for more than 2 seconds! Eh!! Having listened to dozens of friends and family, one of whom has over 100,000 miles on his clock and not ever had a problem with a clutch,Ford also said we were just unlucky, and if it is a fault with the new C-max he would expect to be having the same conversation in another couple of months!Fantastic eh!! Phew having gone through that we do love the comfort of the car, lovely smooth ride, especially over bad roads and dreaded potholes.Bright Blessings X
in my current cmax. the gearbox broke, well more than broke. it fell off!! after about 16,000 miles. just anchored the car in the road. gearbox went and took the clutch with it.. thankfully it was still in warrenty. only took them 2 days to repair. and i got a new mondeo to play with lol
i've ordeed a new cmax. and i dont get it till january i hope they've fixed that clutch problem now
Hi just read about this so signed up.
now we just got our brand new 08 car on 30 july, we went for the 1.8cc zetec after 600 miles going up a little hill in traffic the clutch went yep burnt out, now in all the miles we driven and and the cars we had never once had that ever happen, now the car was back at the dealers been there 2 weeks picked it up today after they replaced the clutch and what not, now sat in traffic in asda`s car park with stop and go as one does in traffic the clutch once again started to smell of burning, what is wrong with them, seems to me it`s common far to common, we be back at the dealers monday again, we not happy and I will be demanding a refund as it`s not fit for the perpose.
hi wat fords have done with all new cars now is replace the lining of the clutch with another component wich is alot weaker than the old cluches are i have a friend who has a c-max and he had the gear box replaced after 16000 miles and now he has just had the clutch plate renewed it is a common fault with the c-maxs and ford know this but they wont recall them to fix this on going problem
I bought a brand new C Mac 1.8 Zetech in June 2009. Same problem , when underload the cluch stinks. I reported the fault within a week. The dealr said to give it 1500 miles to settle down. Today I booked it in after 1700 miles still the same. I will post the outcome soon.
I could understand the clutch wearing so soon if you was some boyracer or something! I should think the clutch would wear abit more in the earlier months as it would have to basically 'settle in'. But 600 miles is abit too soon for anyone really. Im not sure ford are what they probably once were
Had the same problem with my c-max, coming off the IOW ferry. It smelt awful, I thought it was my driving coming from an auto back to a manual, but this also happened in a traffic jam. I've changed the way I drive now, (hand brake more, clutch less). This will be the last manual car I own.
Similar thing has happened to me last week. Had the 1.8 tdci about 3 weeks when on a M way slip road uphill in heavy, slow moving traffic I could smell the clutch! My old car, an 02 plate Vectra with 99,000 miles on factory clutch, did the same traffic day in day out and I use the handbrake sufficiently for a number of friends to comment on the fact. You have now got me worried!!!
MY CMAX HAS DONE 27K MILES GOT IT FROM BRAND NEW IN 2007 MY POWER STEERING BUMP BROKE AFTER 8MNTHS SO THE IT GOT REPLACED THEN 1YEAR LATER RADIATOR HAD HOLE IN THAT GOT FIXED AND SUNDAY DRIVEING UP HILL GEARBOX BLOW UP 2 HOLES INIT FORDS ARE TRYING TO SAY THAT GEARBOX HAS BROKE BECAUSE THE WAY I WAS DRIVEING THE BANGER ANY ONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM I HAVE SEEN ONE WERE HE HAS SAID HIS GEARBOX FELL OFF IM NOT HAPPY WITH THE WAY THEY HAVE TREATED ME I HAVE TOLD THEM TO KEEP THE CAR I DON'T WANT IT BECAUSE ITS NOT SAFE ITS PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM
