brand new c max owner

Hi all,
I picked up my c-max on friday from dagenham surrey, all in all it took 3 weeks from ordering to delivery. Top class service. It is a 58 c-max zetec 1.8 petrol.
Never owned a ford before but I was impressed by the c max reviews.
My only gripe is that it does not have a dimmer switch for the dashboard lights especially with the big orange computer display which seems to glare out at me at night, ( my 1977 Vauxhall viva had it and I thought technology had moved on!!) also is 22mpg normal? I assume the engine needs time to bed in but this seems a bit low.

Any replies or advice would be welcome and I will keep you posted if I get any problems

hi jon welcome to the club
. I have a 1.8 with 34000 miles on the clock. I only average 22mpg and on the motorway I only managed 30. I am sure people will disagree with me but in my opinion the c max is not a car to be driven hard by any means.

Oh just to add that is my opinion of the petrol models.
Hi & welcome.

Mine`s diesel so mpg is better.
As for dimmer, there are 2 rotor dials under & left of light switch.Top is for headlight adjustment up/down according to your loading and below that is the instrument dimmer,at least it is on mine & it`s on a 53 plate so it should be similar on yours.
Hope you have many happy miles of C-Maxing

My 08 Titanium model has a dimmer control, don't know if the feature was droppedon the zetec model. Ford make little spec changes on a regular basis, even the low washer fluid warning was removed from the spec list just before I ordered mine.

Minehas a 1.8 flexi-fuel engine, the petrol performance is the same as the standard 1.8. When brand new at worst I got 22mpg for short trips, stop/start driving, now average about 33mpg after 4500miles. Best was 43mpg on a 280 mile trip, about 70mph, four people, full boot and roof box. Overall the average combined figure is about 33mpg or 27mpg when using biofuel (E85). So it will get better but expect higher figures on a straight run or cruising at motorway speeds.

Ste
thanks for all the help and advice, so much for the fuel figures in the glossy brochure.
The dimmer control should be under the headlight ajustment switch but it seems to be mysteriously missing, its just a niggle but i think it is a basic accessory in a car.
The c-max seems to be like the tardis small on the outside and huge on the inside.

The instrument panel dimmer is a feature dependent on having dertain other things (we went through this in an earlier post) I haven't yet managed to determine if the wiring harness spec is the same so that fitment of front fog lights and panel dimmer can be done to all

I think though that the dimmer is only available when you have the light switch with the front fogs
Hi Sexyk. I've got the same but the 58 1.8 Zetec in sea grey the colour goes well with the smoked windows.
I wanted black but did not want to wait 3 months. my fuel economy has gone up slightly but it is a bit dissapointing. It now has 260 miles on the clock!
there are a few niggles I have with it but Steve from Ford seems to ring me every week to make sure I'm still happy, good customer service.
