Hi Guys, I have been looking for a larger car with higher driver visibility and more space. I had Fords years ago and got really fed up with problems starting, water leaks and rust. My husband and Irecently tried all the MPVs we liked and both decided the CMAX suited us. We are in the process of buying an 05 2.0ltr TDi Ghia with 38000 miles and 1 owner from new with 12months mechanical and electrical warranty.
We love the way this vehicle drives and all the gadgets and the comfortable seats. However I trawled the internet and came across some alarming ownerreviews, most of which are about the 2.0ltr Ghia! We will be tradingin our Audi A3 1.9TDI because it is too small for us.

There are just so many reports of the electronic park brake failing, engines cutting out in busy traffic, brakes failing, dashboard electronics failing, excessive front tyre wear at only a few thousand miles and I could go on.

I really like a lot of things about this vehicle. It felt solidly built, road and engine noisesw we minimal and it pulled really well. I am now about to be broke but I am seriously worried ifwe have done the right thing! Can anyone advise us please.

hi i have a 1.8 ghia petrol with 32500 miles with the epb brake and i dont mean to put a downer on things for you but mine has being a total nightmare it has being back to the dealer on 6 different ocassions for the brake alone the car altogether for different things going wrong has being in the dealers for 6 months the epb is and i was told this by a ford machanic and a ford representative after i had brought the car that itis a total cock up on fords part as a result they no longer do it on any of there models my car as a result of a epb complaint has had 3 new software upgrades wiring replaced a new speedo cluster a module replacedand a brakeactuater my car has also had other problemsto many to list
all this was done under warrenty but i was also told a very interesting thing when speaking to a ford mechanic who told me when you have a warrenty the warrenty only covers the part found to be faulty it does not cover the time that ford take to find the problem he gave me a very scary example my car has around 30 modules and if theres a problem it has to go on a diagnostic machine the whole process take 2 hrs charged to you at ford hourly rate which i think is £75 the warrenty the will cover the part found to be faulty thats it

Hi mjshort79, Thanks for replying.  I spoke to my cousinf today and he is definately a "Ford" man with a !.8Ktr diesel Cmax Ghia on 06 plate.  He has had 18000 in rwo years with ni probs at all. However he is on Motability so I guess he doesn't need to worry financially.

I also read on a review that most of the probs with EPD and rear wiper motor have been fixed with recalls.  I don't know if anhyone is aware but I like to fiddle with all the things I see on cars especially and I found and emergency brake today on my cousin's car, under the arm rest and he has never seen it before.  We guess that its a manual hanbrake?!

Thanks again
Margaret

hopefully the case for yourselves will be that the car is great my car is ex mobility and i still have my car and its being fine since all this work has being carried out the one peice of advise i can give you from my own experience is if a problem comes up take it back asap as i have took my car back for one problem and after being on adiagnostic machine ford have found other problems i had one problem were my car would not accelarate limp mode another common problem ford say this actually led me to have a crash as someone in a van smashed into me because i could not accelarate meaning 2 weeks in uk assistance being repaired the emergency brake is in the armrest hopefully you never have to use it i have and its a nightmare you have to keep pulling on the handle so you manually release the brakes took me ages as you cant pull it up very high and the handle kept coming off as it is only on a thin cable
