I did my first fill up after having changed the front pads yesterday and got back to the just about 50 MPG. So changing very low and worn front pads even without cleaning the edge of the disc may be something to consider

I too found that after I`d changed the pads the mpg slightly went up.I suppose it`s something to do with the fact you are using less energy to stop/slow the car.
