The air conditioning was not working on my recently purchased C-Max. Even though the light on the switch illuminated, the pump would not engage, and no cooled air from the vents.

Took it to a local Ford main dealer, who diagnosed that the air-con pump required replacing. "We see a lot of them, total billwill bearound £400, sir"

Told him I would think about it; on the way home I passed a branch of Kwik-Fit who were advertising their air-con recharge service. Basically, if they can't lower the output temperature of your air-con, its free; otherwise its £44.95

A few minutes after the chap had hooked my car up to their machine, he called me over. Oh dear, I thought, a big bill in store

"Your air-con is slightly low on gas pressure, that's why the pump won't operate". He then proceeded to check for any leaks in the system, before recharging the gas. Result = a fully working air-con system, all for £44.95

Before I left, the car got a free levels check and they topped up my screenwash. Great service (no I don't work for Kwik-Fit), so highly-recommended to anyone with the same problems.

Won't ever take my C-Max to a Ford dealer, unless absolutely necessary.

I was just going to sujgest Kwik fit until I read the 3rd paragraph!
I know that I want to have my system emptied and refilled just to keep things moving.
As for Ford, well, they should know that low gas will mean it will switch off.
Someone must of wanted a big bonus this time.

No problem. It seems you can't lose; if they're not able to lower your vent output temperature, you pay nothing

Kwik-Fit don't do air-con repairs though, only recharges; a mate took his Audi TT to them last week with non-working air-con. The machine they hook up to your car indicated an internal fault with his system, so he wasn't charged. The Kwik-Fit chap told him it would almost certainly be a problem with the pump. He then took it to an independentAudi specialist, who diagnosedthat it was indeed afaulty pump. The strange thing is, his total bill looks likely to be around the £300 mark, whilst Ford wanted to charge me the earth for a pump

I thought that a 'premium' brand like Audi would be a lot more expensive than Ford..................

It certainly looks that way. Once again, I'm seriously disillusioned with my local Ford dealer. They tried to rip me off last year when my diesel Mondeo was in for a service, however I caught them out because of their poor lies. Complained to Ford and the dealer's head office (large UK group), was offered a free valet and a service, but no apology as they said I'd 'misunderstood' their service manager

I`ll never go to a dealer again after last year when I got the car back from minor work to find dents in tailgate.They totally denied it as you would expect,said they were there on walk round by mechanic,surely they should do walk round with owner? Not according to ford.I now have two small dents which I can`t get at to even push out.

They still send me promotional rubbish in the post but I just send it back to them with `Not at your Rip Off Prices`written on the back.
