Series2bloke Try the camshaft sensor, they are not expensive. Good luck.

Big Budgie Cars are generally that complex these days it's nearly impossible to fix some of the faults that appear for little or no reason. Bearing this in mind, I bit the bullet and took out a 2 year policy with Warranty direct. It cost about 550 and I got a "free" month so am covered until September 2014. I had my Xantia covered by them until it became too expensive due to its age, and most years I broke even at least. I sold it soon after. My last car, a Picasso, was not covered as my son was at Uni and I thought I couldn't afford it. Big mistake! It needed a clutch, a steering rack and aircon work while I had it. All of which would have been covered (not 100% due to the age of the vehicle) had I had a policy.

Ravenger Get them to check the wiring loom and the various electrical connectors. My 1.8TDCi started cutting out two weeks out of warranty, with an 'engine system fault' but no enging management light lit.

The dealer first changed the crankcase sensor but the car cut out on the way home from the dealers! They had no idea what was causing the problem until a Ford tech told them to check the wiring loom. Just checking the loom and connectors fixed the problem, so it was likely a dodgy connector somewhere.

In my experience garages have no idea when it comes to diagnosing faults like these. They rely too much on the computer and have a tendency to heap huge costs onto the customer by not taking the time to diagnose the root cause, instead fitting a series of expensive parts to unsuccessfully attempt to fix the symptoms.

Engine cutting out

Hi
I bought a 1.6 Zetec C-Max Tdci 2008 from a main agent 14 months ago. Warranty now run out. Out of the blue the engine has started cutting out when pulling away from junctions & on entering roundabouts. It cuts out when accelerating when changing up from 1st to 2nd gear. My local garage have changed the throttle body at a cost of 400 but this has made no difference. Anyone help?
