Thanks - it worked - eventually. There isnt much room to get at the oill filter - I als had to unscrew a bracket bolt.
27mm socket was spot on!

As the sides of the sump are only about 6" apart it makes little difference

As to how to get to the oil filter (taken from my last post)


The oil filter is above the gearbox to the top / right when stood at the front looking back. Thats something like a 27mm socket to release the nut formed in the black plastic top. You'll probaly have to remove the intake pipe between air box and manifold

Richard G If the later 1.6 TDCI are like mine
The sump plug is at the lower bottom / side of the sump itself. You;ll need to take the undershield off. It's a std size socket job but can't remember the exact size. DONT FORGET A NEW COPPER WASHER TO PUT IT BACK WITH SO IT SEALS

Tom Hilton Please could anyone help. Is the oil sump plug located on the bottom of the sump, as oppsed to the side on some cars, and what size is the nut. Also do I acces the oil filter from underneath the car - I can't find it.
