Hi there,
I went to book my wife's car in for a service today and came away having test driven a C Max for myself.

It's a 2007 1.6 petrol Zetec with 14000 miles on the clock (July 07). 7995.

Two questions if I may.
Although it's only done 14000 miles, it already has new tyres on the front and the back tyres are one their way out. My Galaxy did 40000 miles on a set of tyres. Hard life or noral?

Secondly, a is there anything specific to look out for?

It drove very nicely and for a 1.6 felt quite sporty.

I'll probably go back tomorrow and look at this one again or perhaps one of the others (08 for 8995).

Thanks.
Graham.

Hello and welcome.

We too were potential new owners but should be picking the car up (2nd hand) sometime next week pending our private plate transfer.

Reading the forum and speaking to the salesman, tyres last around 15k miles due to the natural of the car (front heavy), and the rear around 20-25k.

Although established members may be able to give their real performance figures

Thanks for the prompt reply.
That's really scary. My wife's focus estate has just managed 33k miles on a set of tyres and that's only because winter is coming and they're just under 3mm.

Hi Graham, welcome to the club. When I got our max back in August 07,I was made aware (by a dealership)that the front tyres needed replacing asap.I had it MOT`d & was told the tyres would last till next MOT unless the car was driven very hard (it wasn`t).I had 2 new fronts put on just before it went in & there has been very litlle wear since (2 years now.The cat has covered about 15,000 so far & I don`t see the need to change them for another 15,000 at least. As for the rears, they are the original ones fitted when I bought the car. They have covered 20,000 now since we`ve had the car & I can`t see them being replaced either. As you can see, mine is a 2.0TDCI which is a heavier unit than the 1.6 petrol,so unless there is something not quite right at the front the tyres should last at least 30,000.MM

Many thanks for that.

Sounds like this one might have been driven a bit hard. I think I'll take a depth gauge with me tomorrow and have a look at the others. I did look at the disks and they seemed fine which is either an indication they will last forever or contradicts the tyres.

Hello Graham,
Glad to see you describe the 1.6 petrol as 'sporty'.
My tires are originals and have done 23,000 with lots of tread left, so I would expect them to last through 30,000 miles without difficulty. But fronts do seem to wear faster than rears.

Well, for a 1.6

I would expect the fronts to wear faster as they have more to do. 30k miles seems more like it.

Thanks.

Good to know that I'm wrong lol

Hopefully will last as long as what other members say.

We're hoping to pick ours up from Wednesday but in the hands of the DVLA due to plate transfer
