Hi all im new to the forum.
I have just done a deal with a ford main dealer on a 55 plate zetec 1.6 tdci in machine silver with bluetooth being its only extra
I down traded from an 08 plate focus 1.6 zetec petrol to reduce my outgoings as we have a new baby. so I have reduced my monthly payments my road tax bill and my fuel bill , seems ideal but..............................now this will be my first ever diesel and although it has Full main dealer history and has covered just 22000, I am now quite nervous it could end end up costing me more with repair bills etc after reading about egr valves etc in this forum. So could some of you lovely people help put my mind at rest with any calm reassuring words

Hi & welcome to the club.
It`s mainly the 2.0TDCI`s that seem to get egr trouble so hopefully you should be ok.

Having owned the 1.6tdci engine in its 90bhp form in an 07 and 58 plate Fusion I would not be overly concerned.
My 07 car arrived with 10,000 miles and was sold 12 months later on 34,000 miles with no problems. My 58 plate car was bought last July on 9000 miles and sold last week on 25,000.
At 22,000 miles the engine is barely run in andI would anticipate you seeing the mpg improve from 24,000 miles on.
Enjoy !

The 1.6 TDCI 90BHP is a good engine, I'm more used to 170BHP Fabia VRS' but to come back down to 90BHP is a big step but I've found the engine very punchy and ecnomical I'm currently getting about 48MPG mostly town driving with a couple of longer trips, but aside from that you will be looking at about 55MPG on longer journeys and about mid 40's in the town. I'm in the process of thinking of getting mine re-mapped fo a bit more power.

I'm always a bit wary of tampering with an engine's inherent characteristics. Certainly in a car that is designed for economy I would be a little concerned that I would upset the economy or more worringly start stressing components beyond their designed capacity. My Cmax is the 110 version .I don't know how they achieve the performance increase from 90? if that is just a remap then there is probably no harm, although there maybe an insurance premium increase.
I would make sure that any modification is notified to the insurers as I was recently offered a job investigating motor insurance claims - in this recession the insurance companies are keen to minimise payments. even fitting a K&N filter could jeopardise a claim if it was not notified.

Hi and welcome, I too have the 1.6 tdci ( 90 ) in automatic form, i've had mine over a year and had the EGR valve done, but have had no other problems, we go to Brum every 6 wks or so and she returns 58 mpg , and about 48 - 50 running around so I'm pleased with that. Odds on are that you wont have any problems with it, why should you , not everyone does, enjoy the car they're great, hope you have many trouble free miles to come.

thanks for all the replies and the kind welcomes My mind can sit a bit easier now.The car we are getting is the 110 1.6 tdci engine so hopefully it will also feel a bit punchier than the petrol 1.6 focus we are trading in and give better mpg

We have the 54 plate 1.6 TDCI that has done around 30,000 in our company and we get around 50 MPG just about whatever with close to 55 on a longer run even at motorway!! speeds

It does have the K&N panel filter in, which has seemed to make about 10% improvement in the MPG. I don't think a replacement panel filter is usually a problem though the K&N induction kit may be more so
