hi all, i own a 1.8 petrol zetec, for which i have had for a month. I must say that im just about getting 25 mpg and because im a busy mom of three which goes to uni, my car is parked up on the drive as its costing me an arm and a leg to run. I am now starting to think i have made a horrible mistake. althought its comforable to drive i feel i was deceived about the mpg range, i'm gutted as i have 5 years finance on it

I have the same problem! So just for a laugh I reset the computer when I was cruising at 65 on the motorway. 35mpg was the best I could get.

The best I get around town is 28 and that is crawling away from the lights and not going above 2,000 rpm.

REALLY wish I had waited for a diesel one now.

04 plate Ink Blue 1.8 Duratec Ghia. Mods so far, club sticker on rear window and stereo upgrade, 4Q sticker on bootlid and Smurf hanging from rear bumper.

More mods to come as i\'m allowed to.

It would seem that most people really like the c-max but fuel economy from all engine variants whether that be diesel or petrol isn't living up to most owners expectations!!!! My 2.0ltr diesel isn't as economical as my previous mgzs 2.0 ltr diesel by quite some margin but it does make up for it in the performance stakes!!

Can't agree. My 2.0 tdci is regularly giving 45mpg brim to brim, almost always gives 65 on a run and I've even managed 81 on one journey.

The 1.8 petrol has never been good on mpg.My wife had an escort estate with this engine & only managed 25 round town & at best 33 on the m/ways.Sooo glad we got rid of it for the 2.0 TDCI C-Max as it gives 42+ round town & upwards of 60 on m/ways.

You can get your ecu remapped and they are not overly expensive to do. There are two types of remapping that can be done well three really 1 performance 2 economy or 3 custom it all depends on who you go to but tip price should be about 300 pounds but make sure you go to someone who knows what they are doing. I get my car dome on Wednesday performance all the way.
At the moment I get 34 mpg on motorway at the speed limit and 30 mpg round town I have the 1.8 16 v petrol
