Newboy and a proud owner of a C-Max

Hello all, it's the first time I have bought a Ford in years. I used to have them when I was younger, Ford Cortina Mk2 1600E and a 3.0 Capri, all boy racer stuff, but I have been looking for a sensible car to take my clients out in and the C-Max seemed an obvious choice.

It's a 2005, 1.6 petrol manual with about 50,000 miles on it, I say about, because I live in Tenerife and it's in KM. It hasn't had a cambelt, so I'm wondering if there has ever been any formal decision made on this subject, because reading the threads on cambelts...I don't think that anybody came up with a definitive answer.

Thanks in advance

Hello there. According to the Haynes manual, the Ford interval for cambelt renewal on the 1.6 engine is 100,000 miles (approx 160,000km) or ten years, although they qualify that by saying that vehicles which have been mainly used for short start/stop journeys should have this interval shortened. The interval for the axilliary drive belt, which must be removed to access the cambelt anyway, is the same.
If you get your car serviced at a VAT registered (or your equivalent) garage, you may be able to take advantage of this product Timing Belt Failure Insurance, Timing Belt Failure Cover
I don't know if they extend their cover to Tenerife, but there may be a similar scheme available there.

Thanks very much Colin, probably best to get it looked at now then as I am unaware of the journeys that have been done in it in the past.

Thanks again for your help.
