Yes, I couldn't understand it either, but the nice man from the RAC spent 10 minutes looking for it in the engine compartment with a torch and a mirror on the end of wand. He said that he had never heard of an oil filler cap coming off or working loose, so suspects that it was never put back in the first place. I asked about the lack of oil splash in the engine compartment and he told me that only vapor would escape and some other technical stuff that I just nodded to.
He then told me to start the engine but again it only turned but didn't fire, he then told me to put the accelerator pedal to the floor and turn the engine again. This time the engine fired up with a huge white cloud of smoke coming out of the back, it was miss firing at first but soon firing as normal.
He then connected his laptop to the car and found that the E.G.R control circuit high and the E.G.R valve frozen, I took this information to Ford and was told that it would cost £348 to put right. My new oil cap cost just under a tenner....
