It will depenf a lot of what type of driving you are doing and if you are using all the electrical toys

I'm averaging just under 39 mpg and driving reasonably sedately. Fortunately - for me, anyway - I didn't buy it for fuel economy.
But it would be interesting to have a sticky where members could put in their average mpg.

You'd get very disheartened with our diesel figures of around 50 MPG

OK Richard - what should we be getting and how can it be improved?

I've got the 1.6 so I don't know but as to improving
make sure filters are clean and tyres pumped up correctly
try to judge road conditions so that wind resistence slows you down (coasting) rather than sudden braking, accelerate perhaps more gently and get to the higher gears as early as possible and probbaly the most important pair don't do very short journeys where it doesn't get properly warm and try not to have any more electrical loads on than necessary

What mileage has your got?
Mine`s got 1k on it now and combined driving of me and my better half never see`s above 42.
If I poodle about treating with kidgloves I`ve seen 50+Mpg, but then I get bored and have to have my dose of Torque...
It should steadily improve witha few more miles on the clock, once things wear in and loosen up.

Mileage is about 4500. On the 'instant' mpg read out it has been over 80 - but for only for a second or two when lifting foot off the pedal. The average mpg read out is 38.5 or very near that.
