Newbie 1.6TDCi Zetec and few questions

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to the forum.

This is my return to Ford after 20 years. My first car when I was 18 was a 2.0L GXL MK3 Cortina, I bought from an auction to my regret and soon followed by a Mk2 1.1L Popular Mk2 Escort. I Wish I still had the Escort as it would be worth something now. The only other Ford I have had was a MK4 Escort 1.8D which was a company car when when I was mid 20s and drove 100k miles in 3 years and remember having to have new rear bearings every service. Thames Ford in Wimbledon used to service it but were dire and I changed Ford in New Malden who weren't much better. I still remember the rudest and grumpiest man I've ever met on the service desk when I used to take it in for a service 3-4 times a year.
Since then I have driven lots of different makes over the past 20 years, Renault, Peugeot, BMW, Saab, Volvo, Vauxhall, VW. I hope I'm doing the right thing coming back to Ford.

I'm picking up a 2004 Focus C-Max 1.6TDCi Zetec tomorrow. I'm paying 2850 and it's done 81,000 miles from a dealer. It's a Silvery Green colour depending on the light. What do you think I will get MPG?

I forgot to check about the cambelt when I looked at the car can any one tell me when it needs changing and is there anything else that I need to think about? It is MOT'd till August and has FSH.

How often would you change the oil? I'm thinking every 6 months as it will be mainly shorter journeys and what grade?

Looking forward to joining in the Forum in the coming months.

Hi Lee,
Not been here long myself, had mine nearly a month now and enjoying the size difference from a Rover 200 bubble!
MPG I'm getting just over 45 round town and a couple of 70 mile round trips on motorway.
Cambelt interval is 10 years or 140k miles according to book but I think most prefer to get it done on 5 yearly intervals for piece of mind.
According to my Haynes book the oil is 5W30, no mention of semi or fully synthetic.

Or 54 plate 1.6 TDCI has just returned a couple of 55 MPG fills with mainly motorway journeys but ought to do 45 + on commute just about whatever

The oil is the semi sythetic and I've not found any problem with Halford's "spec for Ford" oil

you might find that the K&N filter works with the diesel with there being no throttle plate to interupt the flow. I reckon its about 7 - 10 % on the MPG as an indication of the improvements
