Hello everyone.
We've just purchased a C max 11days ago. We bought it because it was one of the few cars my wife finds comfortable and its for her use mainly. Its a 1.8tdi titanium. Presently all is well and its a nice car to drive. Am a little concerned about fuel consumption but will know more when weve been on a decent run. currently on short trips its averaged 39.5.

Hello Gerald, welcome to the site.

Is your car brand new? I don't know what MPG to expect from the 1.8 diesel [I have a 1.6 petrol, myself] but you will find plenty of posts about MPG here and lots of friendly advice, etc. I would have thought almost 40mpg around town pretty good. I have a friend who has a 2 litre Toyota Avensis diesel, and his MPG dips markedly when commuting to about 33/35 MPG. If the car is new then you should expect an improvement when 'run in'.

Well, it's certainly 'run in'. I've had a quick look around the forum and your MPG return seems about right. I reckon that a comparable diesel should be doing 10MPG better than a petrol, and the bigger diesels should be doing much better MPG on a long journey. I get something around about 33/35 in town, 37 in mixed and 40+MPG on motorways. One thing for sure, the actual MPG achieved by everyone bears no relationship to the claimed MPG from Ford.

Hi Gerald and Welcome

Your MPG is about right for around town but take it on the motorway and do a steady 60 - 62, then you'll see the MPG shoot up!
