Hello everyone. I have decided to join the club, having bought a 1.6 petrol Cmax three months ago after over 30 years of driving variations of the classsic SAAB 900. The last one blew up on the A1 after 200,000 miles of otherwise troublefree motoring, albeit at an average MPG of 20. I drive only 5000 miles a year, but wanted a car that was comfortable and relaxing to drive, spacious and affordable with a big boot. The Cmax I found is a 54 plate with 15,000 on the clock, which I puchased for £4500 from a franchise [not Ford]. This is actually more than twice the amount of cash I have ever parted with for a motor, since, for me at least, shelling out large amounts of dosh on them has never made any sense, as I get to work on a bike or into London by train. I was about to join another forum, but reading through the posts saw that almost all of its members seemed ideologically opposed to the 1.6 petrol engine. I could have purchased any number of Cmax 1.6 and other sized oil burners, but decided against it. Reasons, and my impressions of my Cmax to follow.
