Hello! I'm new. I had 2 ford escorts, followed by a saab 9-3 auto and picked up my 08 08 black zetec c-max with 2400 on the clock last week. Still getting used to changing gears after 3 years of auto driving! Not quite sure of the privacy windows yet however I wanted to know what kind of mpg I should be getting? So far, according to my display, I'm getting less than 20 mpg for urban driving which doesn't sound right. Also, on the motorway at 80 mph I was revving at 4,000. I've never had such a new car before and wonder if I have to break it in correctly? Any views?

Hello Maxi,

08 plate in black, with only 2400 miles, eh. Nice. So, what size engine do you have in there? Petrol, I assume from the 4,000 rpm at 80mph.

Yup petrol. the car is ex motability hence low milage. also put 40 worth of petrol in yesterday, have driven 35 urban miles and the fuel reading which was nearly full is now nearly at quater full.

Hi & welcome. As your C-Max has done 24,000 it should be run in.As for the high revs, there was a post a few days ago on the same subject.I think a software upgrade sorted that out.

OK, what size [capacity] of engine does your car have? 1.6,1.8 or 2.0 litre. Did you buy it from a ford franchise and do you have a warranty? 35 miles on almost 3/4 of a tank of fuel is obviously not right. Also, it has done only 2400 miles and not 24,000 miles, right?

Oops,I think I misread the mileage so at 2400 it may only just be run in.

I have a 2 litre Ghia and that averages about 28-29 mpg if just run around town, but I have had it up to 36mpg after regular runs up and down the motorway at 70-75mph.

Can you let me know where the link is about the software upgrade as it sounds like its worth getting that done (before my warrenty runs out... .

Hi - thanks all for your support!
Its a 1.8 petrol zetec and i bought it from Perrys, so not an offical ford dealer. I've still got 2.5 year on the warrenty.
Once more thing, how do i change the temperature reading from
Fahrenheit to Centigrade<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

You're welcome,

I have a lowly but lovely 1.6 LX, so I don't have a fancy internal computer thingy to tell me the temperature, etc. You will have discovered elsewhere in the forum what mpg you should expect with a 1.8 - probably around about 26-30 around town, depending on how you drive. Perrys won't be able to help you with your PCM or ERG updates, so you need to find a ford franchise for that. They should find something missing or not updated by the sound of it. I recently had this done and my mpg increased markedly. It took an hour and cost me 50. See my post in the 'old' ford focus cmax forum under 'MPG tag' page 3. My 1.6 was spinning at well over 4000 rpm at 80mph, and now does 3750 rpm at 80.

I also drove SAABs before the Cmax. Mine were old 900s. It is a very different drive, and less torquey, so expect more revs from the Cmax. I think the 1.8 should be spinning at about 3500 at 80 mph. Let us know how you get on.

I would also do a brim to brim check for the fuel consumption just in case the fuel gauge is reading very low
We had to have our fiesel one changed in the first few months but with having no computer i had to do the maths myself
