Hi, I am in the process of buying a Ford Focus C-max 2.0TDCi zetec 2004 (53). It has done 67k miles. On the test drive there was a hissing noise coming from the turbo and white smoke from the exhaust. Car is fittedwith a towbar and twinelectrics so it has obvioslytowed a caravan.Car comes with 3 months warranty. The garage seem to think that the problem is the turbo pipe andthanksto other members I can already see that I will need to get the garage to fix and double check the turbo itself. If problem persist they will need to look at the head gasket. Otherwise very much looking forward to getting car and car in good condition.Feedback warmly welcomed

If it is exhibiting problems before purchase like this then why on earth would you want to saddle yourself with some mega bills .
I was always told by my late father ( a very experienced motor engineer) to never consider a car that had been towing caravans. The wear and tear on the transmission is huge and with a car like this which has a dual mass flywheel the clutches aren't up to the job.A clutch will not be covered by a warranty and the flywheel will probably need replacing as well.
I suspect the car was sold because it has some big bills coming soon.
A lot of aftermarket warranties aren't worth the paper they are printed on.
If you are adament you want this car then pay for a full AA or RAC Engineers report before parting with your hard earned.
You know the car has issues already though -DON'T BUY IT!!

I know that some warranty's are not up to much but we have been ensured that everything is covered for 3 months. We will be getting our own mechanic to check the car a week after we have it and send it back to the car dealer within the 3 months for anything that needs doing. Thanks for the advice

If you are so keen to buy this car whynot get your own mechanic to check the carBEFORE you buy it.
Please read this forum and realise how much engine / gearbox/ clutchrepairs on one of these cars can cost you- normally third party warranties exclude lots of wear and tear and service items (like clutch friction material, dual massflywheels, gaskets fluids etc etc).
If the car needs a head gasket there is a reason - it has probably overheated while towing due to another issue and has been sold because of the repair cost.
Do you really believe that the vendor is going to do a proper repair job on such an old car and notmaximise his profit. He will probably bodge it up long enough to last 3 months and you will have no redress when it leaves you on the side of the motorway in a cloud of steam.
Why not find yourself a nice honest car without issues - there are plenty about.

DUDE like HELLOsounds to me like this car has all the beginnings of being one MAJOR financial DEEZZASSTA !!!! . DON`T BUY IT !!!! .
I sure ain`t no expert on all things mechanical but as a kid i grew up in an auto engineering environment and i don`t think it`s just the turbo thats gone on this car . It sounds to me like the head gasket has gone maybe even piston rings which in a car of its age with as few miles is not small cookies .
Forgot to add that cars of 1.6 size are not suited to towing , and i would definately NOT buy a car that has one or that looks like its had one . NOT even as a gift
Olliesgrandad is all the way in my book so take it as two opinions to say NO and find a decent car before you part with any moneyEdited by: seang1970
