Hello Everyone

I'm a potential new C-MAX owner with his eyes on a locally found 2.0 Ghia auto. 31k on the clock, panther black, 1 owner, ex-motability car.

Like many others, I am torn between the good and the bad reviews. I like the look of the car I've seen. It's in good condition, it's an auto so my wife can drive it, and it's within budget. But...so many of the major problems I read about seem to trouble the diesel models. Is this due to inherent flaws in them, or simply due to there being more of them around?

Many thanks in advance!

AshG

What age?
If it has an electric handbrake, combined with it being an automatic I'd pass. They're the most common faults and will cost alot to repair.
As with most cars newer = better.

Welcome.
If it is a CVT auto the general advice on this forum is to leave well alone.
They are notoriously unreliable and as parts are not available for the gearbox outside the ford network people are being quoted 4000 a pop for repair.
Search the forum and you will find plenty of posts from people bitterly regretting purchase.

Hi Ollies'

No, it's a standard auto. The only real concerns I have are the EPB and the fuel consumption!

EPB takes a bit of getting used to but seems to work OK. I think a lot of the EPB faults reported seem to be voltage related possibly due to a failing alternator. Dont know MPG for an auto but mine does at least 50 mpg and closer 60 mpg on a steady run.

Hope you get a good one, they are very nice to drive with lots of power.

That's good news.I don't know much about ford autos - i've had autos in BMW, Mercedes and Audi without incident over many thousands of miles.
LikewiseI have no experience of the EPB.
The only experience with a 2 litre engine in an auto was a 1995E34 BMW 520 4 speed6 cylinder which used to do about 22mpg around town - I bought it for fun for 1400 and sold it for 1500 12,000 miles later.
I'm sure someone here will be able to give you an idea on the mpg.
i am a little disappointed with my car as My previous Ford diesels used to do about the same as the combined figure quoted. This car is doing about 10 mpg less at the moment....i always check tankful to tankful without relying on the computer.
