grand cmax engine fan

hello all

picked up my grand cmax this week and have noticed that the engine fan continues running for a fair while after the engine is stopped . asking the dealer about this he said it is normal and it is to do with the climate control im not so sure.

does anybody have any idea if the dealer is talking sense

cheers

As you can see I have an ecoboost petrol c max and I have never heard the cooling fan running after the engine has stopped. My climate control is switched on all the time at varying temperatures and even at its coldest the cooling fan doesn't run on.

Is you car a diesel? If so, it might be the dpf going through a regeneration which will cause the fan to run on after switch off. Nothing to worry about.

If it is not a diesel then maybe something is wrong. Maybe try another dealer.

I get this as well with a 1.6 Dsl, stops after a while though.
Also had it on our last 1.6 dsl so Ecomax may be correct

If it's a 1.6 diesel, the turbo is on the front of the cylinder head and the exhaust (and cat?) are just behind the rad in the engine compartment. It seems likely to me (as an engineer) that the fan is programmed to keep running for a certain time in order to help dissipate heat build-up from them. Mine is a 2.0 so the turbo is at the back of the block, with the cat etc underneath the car. The fan on mine stops right away. It won't be the DPF regenerating, you have to run the engine at over 2000 rpm for about 20 mins for that to happen I believe!

Tombo68, if you are looking in on this thread, I suggest you have a look at another thread headed 'cooling fan' in the 2010 model general section. There are a few more cars with the same symptoms as yours so you might get some clues there. Hope that is of assistance. Cheers.
