Hello all. I am looking at buying a 2009 2.0 tdci C-Max and would be grateful for any pointers as to what I should look when taking a test drive (have always had petrol engined cars in the past). Do these Ford tdci engines still have problems?

Thanks,
Tony

HI Tony,
With it being such a new car, it will be covered by the warranty from Ford but basics if second hand then make sure you get two keys, good service record and mileage and that all "bells & whistles" work!
I'm sure I could think of more but been up since 4am and just done a 12 hour shift and back again in the morning so brain a bit frazzled!
But do have a look around, more so in the New Cmax section and gen up.

Good luck!

Hi & welcome to the site,
The only probs with the engines these days are iffy egr valves & use of weak atlenators by ford.

Thanks all.

The car I've been looking at is for sale at a Ford main dealership. Nine months old with 4000 miles (if I heard correctly!). It has a tow bar fitted - good, as I need one for towing my caravan, but on the other hand it makes me a bit suspicious as to why it has been sold on so early in its life. The price is lower than I expected from this dealer - most of the cars are on sale above main dealer prices. It's 12499 and, after a bit of pressure from me, 3300 for my 2003 Focus Ghia 1.8 petrol with 48,000 miles.

It's a 2.0 litre tdci (I presume 130 bhp) Zetec. Going off the subject - I don't understand why Ford have dropped the Ghia - the Zetec and Titanium versions are
'sporty' by my standards! So I'm a bit concerned as to whether the Zetec's ride will prove to be a bit firm after a while.

If I ask the dealer for a print out of the history of the car - ie any warranty work, etc - is he obliged to provide it?

I hope to be able to test drive it within the next couple of days, so we'll see.

Will be glad to hear any more advice.

Thanks,
Tony

Given that there are two version of the 2L TDCI and the lower has ONLY 110 BHP do check the V5. This may be the reason for the chop so soon
Do also check the weight of your van against the tow limit just in case
As to the dealer showing the history, if they won't then begin to wonder why and become oh so much less interested in purchase. They'll want to sell much more than you want to buy

I thought it was still there, but I see now the engine is available with the Titanium. How strange. Perhaps the car I'm looking at could be something special :-)

The 2.0TDCI was available in 6 Speed in Zetec up until early/Mid 2009, from then on it was 2.0TDCI Powershift in Zetec , 2.0TDCI 6Speed was only available in Titanium trim.

2010 Titanium 2.0 TDCI Panther Black.

I got bored & went on ford web site & tried to spec a zetec with the 136bhp 2.0TDCI & it would not let me play.
Not that I`m in the market for a change, the wife ( she who must be obeyed ) likes our current Max too much.I did live very dangerously & left a Meatloaf cd in the head unit instead of her Boz Scaggs (?) disc.
If you don`t hear from me for a few days, you`ll know she`s have got me.
