When you say "fronts" do you mean front passenger and drivers doors.

If so then that is possibly illegal (depending on the level of tint) as respect to the amount of light coming through and what the driver can see of the road

Hi Richard

Yes the front passenger and drivers side..... I beileve the legal limit is 75% amount of light coming through so i guess i am illegal but that all depends if you drive like a **** and want to draw attention to yourself. like myself im neither so i could be ok.

Another thing to remember is should you be involved in an accident you could invalidate your car insurance.

If it's too dark it might be a MOT failure

Legal limit for side windows is 70% or just about if somebody looking at the drivers window can't see the driver then it's to dark (based on the criteria that if they can't see the driver then the driver can't see out either)

Whilst it's not an MOT item for Class 4 vehicles if PLOD were being very clever it is an offence under part of the Road Traffic Offenders Act with regard to Road Vehicle Construction and Use and could land you with a Level 3 (1,000) fine

I remember watchin a Police Interceptors type program a while back. Think it was in Humberside. One of the Bobbies pulled over this Blonde in a Range Rover with tints on all windows, including the front side windows. He did a test on them and they were far too dark. She called Hubby and when he came the bobby made him peel off some of the film before he let the woman go. He said that was the choice. Either peel some of it off, or get lifted! That one was only passing 30% of the light if memory serves AND she was wearing shades as well! Bl***y wonder she could see anything!

Big Budgie, I remember that one, the hubby was pretty pi##ed off having to rip the tints off he'd just payed to have done, also remember he couldn't quite get it all off and looked a mess!! surely these places that fit these tints should know what the legal requirements are & be made more accountable for fitting illegal tints to the front windows.

they probably know very well what the requirements are but they are doing what their customer wants and being paid for it

As you could fit illegal parts to your vehicle yourself the law is that the driver is responsible for driving a vehicle in an "un-roadworthy" condition

When owning a Citroen Picasso I knew that the front windows were as dark as you were legally allowed. So if you want to know the limit look at a Picasso. Car not the paintings ha ha ha.
