Just had to replace a damaged front tyre on my c- max , I had a michelin fitted to keep them all the same, though it cost 180. pounds, kwik fit. a friend of mine said i had wasted my money , as the budget tyre companies purchased the compoundsfrom the big guys so therefore their tyres were as good as top brands!! this does not seem to be correct to me , but he is adamant , and says"which" did a survey a few years ago proving this. i find it hard to believe. bill.

Just had a quick look at the Michelin prices at Black Circles and they are around the 100 mark fully fitted. I'd have gone with Dunlop (Fast Response)/ Goodyear (Excellence or Efficient Grip) Black Circles have them at 75 so you could have had TWO for 150

I have the Dunlop on the Front and the Goodyear on the back of a 1.6 Diesel

Hi hobobill, 180 seems very excessive to me i wouldn't pay that price to fit a tyre on a c-max, As for major manufacturers selling their compounds to competitors is as likely as the lock ness monster!!! these manufacturers invest millions in compounds/tyre tread design etc cannot see them selling that information to direct competitors especially budget brands, i suspect your friend is misinformed
