Ok... this is where the newbie makes a dick of himself!! First Post..

Had my C-Max for a week now.. finding time to look it over.. And i am puzzled if the Timing Belt should be covered??? Mine is not and the belt is fullly visual.. seems odd. and slightly dangerous if you are working on the car whilst it is running.. Tried to fing image on google but nothing.

any ideas..

The timing belt on C-Maxs is a chain. There is a belt on the drivers side of the engine that drives the auxillaries which is open. Maybe that's the one everyone is thinking of?

The TIS contains information on the PSA engines and states that both contain timing chains.

Just had a look on my etis manual and it says that both psa engines have belts, but the petrol engines have chains. Before i bought mu tdci i called fords to find out wether it had a chain or a belt and they too said that it has a belt and should be changed at 150k

All the diesels have Cambelts ( the 1.8tdci has a chain driving the fuel pump and a belt from pumpdriving Camshaft. ) the 1.6 is 60k, 1.8 is 100K change, the 2.0 is 150K change , the new 1.6vvt petrol has a belt as well, the 1.8 and 2.0 petrol is chain.
All Cambelts should be under a cover as terminal engine damage can occur if foreign debris were to enter.
As someone else said, maybe you can see the drive belt, this is the only one that you should see, and no, that doesn`t have a cover.
Hope this helps clear things up a little.
