I bought my 2.0 tdci 2004 cmax last december. Had nothing but trouble. 2 Days after i bot it. The heated windscreen packed up. Got that fixed. 1 week later i had a major fuel leak on the engine. Fuel everywhere. Got that fixed. I also noticed a problem with the steering in cold weather. It was nearly impossible to steer right for the first 15 minutes of driving it. Stiffness when turning, which would suddenly ease causing you to oversteer into oncoming vehicles. Death trap!!! No one could tell me what the problem was. Just have to put with it. 3 months later, car was emitting diesel fumes into passenger area. Had injector seals replaces at a cost of 170. 2 Months later another set of injector seals went emmiting diesel fumes again into passenger area. Had them replaced at similar cost. 2 Weeks later while driving back from Whitby, car started leaking all over the engine again. Car just stopped this time. Got recovered to garage. Another return pipe had perished, so had this replaced at the cost of 140. literally 3 days after getting it back. My wife got into the car, and the PAS failure light came on. Car wouldnt steer right whatsover. Car went back into garage. Power steering pump had exploded putting metal filings into the pipes. When garage rang to order a new pump, Ford informed them this is common fault with these cars, and they keep a stock of 10 in all the time, having to restock the every month, as they are always replacing them. The citroen Saxo has the same pump, and they are forever going wrong. (Ford need to take a long hard look at this car) The pump cost 300 plus labour. Digracefull!! Got the car back Thursday evening 27/10/2011. Steering much better, however friday morning PAS failure came on even though it was steering fine. Light went out seconds later. Next day my wife went down town. 20 minutes later i saw a mate who said my car had broken down again. I though he was just being funny. And laughed it off. He was being deadly serious. Battery just died, on it. We jump started it. No explanation why it is flat. Alternator is working perfectly. Didnt go flat later. WHY!!!!!!
Do not buy these cars. They are utter crap. Worst car ever. The only thing i like about it is. When it runs, its a lovely drive, and has bags of power.
I am currently talking to the finance company to get my money back, under the sales of good act 1979. Being sold a car of un-satisfactory quality, not free from fault.
