Hi!

I've just bought a 2006 focus c-max 1.6TDCi and think it's great already.

The only problem that I have with it is that I only received one remote key fob with it. I also received a normal manual key but would rather not use it and me and my wife are both used to having our own keys!

I've seen people before who have had quotes of 150+ for new keys from Ford dealers which is more than I want to pay! But I found some sellers on ebay who are selling blank keys and fobs for about 30.

My question is, how easy is it to get these keys cut and programmed to my car?

I reckon getting it cut should be easy and the manual acutally gives instructions on how to programm spare key fobs but I have read somewhere that if the car has an immobiliser then the process is more difficult.

Has anyone tried this? Anyone got any advice?

Thanks in advance!

there are two stages to (re)programming remote keys, Central Locking & Immobiliser

The central locking you can do following the instructions in the manual the immobiliser is either Fraud or a specialist auto locksmith job

You may have such locksmiths near you that probably only want around 95 to do the job of cut and programme the key (based on a figure I had as a quote during last year)

Richard,

If you have two keys already and go to Fords for another (not remote) for 25-ish will that operate everything, including the immobiliser/alarm when you lock the door?

I only have the "non remote key" t'other half has remote

It requires turning it twice in door lock to operate the central locking and with having the key operated lock in the tailgate that can be opened without unlocking the other doors

Don't know about the alarm as our LX version doesn't have such and for those without the lock barrel in the liftgate it may be more awkward

Thanks Richard,

So if I bought the key i'd have to take it to a specialist Auto locksmith to try and get the immobiliser part coded.

Thanks for your help, i'll see if I can find on in my area!

Cheers!

try copying and pasting this including the quotes into google

"vehicle locksmith glasgow"

they would probably want to sell you the key as well rather than just cutting / programming
