Hi everyone, i'm new to the site and i'm looking for advice.

We've been looking at a few big cars for a while now and we're pretty sure we've settled for a C-Max, should be test driving one later this week.

What i need from you learned people is advice on the actual car itself, are there any common faults i should be looking out for when i drive it, are there any recalls i need to check have been done, is there anything that i may not be aware of that may come back to bite me on the backside (and the wallet) once i've purchased it.

Don't know if this is relevant but we're looking at a 1.8 (or better) petrol in the Zetec (or better) series.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

Despite examples to the contrary I would avoid the electric parking brake which can be very expensive if it fails
Check that it has a spare wheel rather than a punture repair
See if / when the alternator was changed. they can go at any time irrespective of mileage
Check all the electrical goodies work including the air conn and the heated screen
If you can try to get a test drive at motorway speed as the gearing for the petrol's can be a little low so as not to give very good MPG
check the central locking including the tailgate both with the remote buttons and with the key in any locks that are fitted
check for any damp in the footwells in the cubbyholes behind the front seats and in the spare wheel well
Check the front tyre life especially if they are Conti's and any irregular wear patterns either round or across the tyre

I have EPB on my car and have not really had an issue with it.

I have however had a number of other issues and to be honest I am yet to find a cheap fix to any of the problems that I have had.

I would not worry about the EPB at all and if you are worried I would take advise on it from people who have it on there car not people that dont

Take a long test drive to make sure the seats are comfortable enough for you - I find the Zetec seats quite hard.

Definately go with Richards comments.
I have a 2.0 TDCI Zetec & I have found the seats very comfy.
