Hi there, I am a bit of a newby on here,,, I have just bought a used Ford Cmax "08" plate Zetec Auto... However the selling dealer is telling me that the car only comes with one remote key and onespare key, nonremote. Is this correct???? please help...The problem is when my wife opens the drivers door with the non remote key, she sets the alarm off if the key is not inserted within a few seconds Dennis Owen

Hello Dennis,
Welcome to the club. The need to insert the key into the ignition within a few seconds is correct for a non-remote key or if you open the door with the key section of a remote key, if you see what I mean.
However, my car, bought second hand, came with two remote keys so it would appear that you have been given false information on that point.

Welcome, Dennis. Mine is the same year as yours. Though I've not much recent experience with Fords, so happy to be corrected, mine came the same as yours - one remote with flip-out key, plus one plain key.
Obviously, Rolo knows his own keys, but maybe Titaniums came with 2 remotes, but our humble Zetecs had only one? Old brochure handy anyone?

My step-daughter's 2004 StreetKa has two remote keys but also uses that strange cylindrical key type that I think Ford developed about 20 years ago. Her previous regular Ka had the same key type but no remote IIRC.

I bought a Zetec on Monday which only came with the 1 remote key though the dealer I bought it off said as he is supplied by the local ford dealer other stuff usually filters through the post after a few weeks (he'd only got it in a few days prior). However he also said the other key would most likely be a non remote one. Your best bet is probably ebay for a replacement key then get it cut at a dealers, thats what I had to do with our old Honda Jazz!

zzz! Seems like I was lucky. I didn't set out to buy a Titanium, I just went to see a C-Max looking for a similar style car to replace my ten year old (well loved) Nissan Tino. Nissan had stopped production years ago and replaced it with the Qashqai, which I don't like.
The C-Max I saw was almost new and at a bargain price compared to a new car, the test drive was all I needed to convince me. The more I use it the more pleased I become. It even tows my caravan better than the Tino.
It does seem as though the C-max variants are not even standard. Mine is different than the brochure led me to expect.

I hear what your saying, mine is only a 03 2.0 TDCi Zetec but doesn't have alloys just 16" wheeltrims. I thought all Zetecs came with alloys and assumed even an oldish 2nd hand one would!

I've got a whole library of old Ford brochures (including a 2004 C-Max one...very handy since that's what we bought!) & there's NO mention of how many keys are supplied or which type.
I THINK standard practice these days is 2 remote keys - 1 of which (on mid to higher spec models only), would be a flip one.

That'll be the High Security key - introduced around 1985 I reckon (first on the Mk3 Granada/Scorpio, then the Mk4 Escort/Mk2 Orion & the Sierrain 1986, & then the Mk3 Fiesta in 1989).
Previous to that, all Fords had the standard style of key which made it VERY easy to break into & start the car using nothing more than a forcefully inserted screwdriver.
Once Ford introduced this revolutionary new lock, the scum of this nation moved on to Vauxhalls - with the Astra becoming the UK's most stolen car from the mid 80s through until the mid 90s.
The ONLY remote central locking system fitted to the Ka by Ford used a remote that was separate from the key (like an alarm remote on your keyring).

Yep, my head IS full of mostly useless information peeps!

54 plate C-Max 1.8 Zetec, Magnum Grey, rear privacy glass, colour-coded Mk2 tailgate badge, clear side repeaters...& a clownfish on the aerial!
