Are these filters (43 each from K&N) worthwhile for the added economy/performance/money saving on filters?

I've used one of these for a year on my motor. Not a K&N but one of those green cotton jobs, which costs 25. I think the car runs smoother and revs better, but have no evidence that these things improve MPG one iota. Oh, and yes, you won't have to buy new filters, but they are a bit of a pig to clean properly, apparently. However, I checked mine out the other week, and it seemed to be very clean and just needed a tap out.
There are well populated threads elsewhere on the site about pros and cons.

I fitted a K&N air filter to my 1.8 petrol c max after reading how great they are. I can tell you hand on heart that after having it in for neally 12 months it did nothink at all. It Did not improve performance or mpg. I have tacken it out now and purchesed a normal air filter. The only thing in my opinion that is worth having a K&N air filter for is you never have to buy another air filter. I also took it out as I read somewere that a K&N air filter not only allows more air flow but it also allows more dust through also.

Oh and if someone is interested in purchesing a K&N air filter I have mine put away if anyone is interested 25 plus P&P. That also will include the cleaning solutions I have left over also.

Having got a panel K&N on our DIESEL yes it gives about 10% improvement in MPG but for petrol where most running is with "PART OPEN" throttle I've found before it's not any real advantage
