Can anyone please help..

The imobiliser light in the instrument cluster of our CMAX sits there flashing (slowly) when the car is locked, which I believe is correct behaviour.

However, when I insert the key, and start the car, sometimes the imobiliser light flashes faster ??

The engine runs OK and the car can be driven, but the red light continues to flash.

We have no tried both keys, and the same thing happens..

Anyone know why ??

Hopefully it can be fixed, as anything electronic on these cars is always a worry.

Last thing I want to do is get stranded somewhere !!

Thanks Guy's..

Not at all
If you search through the forum. You can buy reasonable fault code readers that you can use yourself that just plug into the OBDC II port that I think I remember is somewhere in the lower dashboard under the main light switch

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes, this will reset the computers in the car. If you think about it they have been on for the last 8 years they could probably do with a rest! The car will drive a bit odd for about 5 miles whilest it recallibrates itself. Before you try that make sure you have the radio code and breakdown cover. The reason I say breakdown cover is that my wifes Fiesta had an EAC Error and somebody suggested disconnecting the battery which I tried - then the car wouldnt start after that. Paid 25 to get the car recovered to a garage less than a mile away.

Thanks for your replies guy's..

Right then, I found a good video on youtube explaining what the flashing red LED means.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kBZeBbb9PM

Following the instructions to wait until the fast flashing stops and then count the flashes for tthe error code I came up with 13..

This means Key Code not Received !!

So why is it sometimes and not others (I have tried both keys) ?

Thanks..

I'm wondering about a connection to the instrument cluster coming loose to some extent

Great work on finding that video, i'm sure that will come in handy. At a guess I think the keys use some form of RFID, keys or metal objects can interfere with the tranmission of the code. Try a "bare" key with no other keys or keyrings. I would also check the cable in by the ignition switch for the coil like on the video - sometimes the connector can pop out (happened to the wifes Fiesta indicator cable)
